John Farley (Seann William Scott), the author of a self help book about letting go of the past, violates his own advice when he travels home to recieve an award and discovers that his widowed mother is engaged to Mr Woodcock (Billy Bob Thornton), his old gym teacher who made high school hell for generations of students.Encouraged by his geeky old friend John plots to break-up the relationship, but his plan goes awry.
